Regaine foam for men is a clinically proven hair loss treatment for men, containing the active ingredient Minoxidil. Regaine For Men is an Extra Strength formulation containing 5% Minoxidil. It comes in a variety of sizes and forms, including Regaine Foam and Regaine solution. Each will have the same clinical effect, only differing in how they feel on the scalp.

It has been proven to prevent hair loss and/or promote hair regrowth in 8 out of 10 men who use it. A percentage of those begin to notice hair regrowth. This makes Regaine for men the trusted treatment choice of over 5 million people worldwide. Regaine Extra Strength Foam contains 5% Minoxidil and is designed for men who want faster results than normal strength.

Regaine for men has been shown to regrow some hair in 3 out of 5 men. Results usually appear after 8-12 weeks of use.

When to Use Regaine Foam for Men?

Regaine for Men is a topical treatment for hereditary hair loss. It works by revitalising inactive hair follicles, but doesn't actively grow hair.

For this reason, you should begin treatment when you first notice signs of balding, including:

  • Receding Hairline: The hairline may gradually recede from the temples or the forehead.
  • Crown Thinning: The "swirl" on the back of your head is beginning to widen.
  • Density Loss: When you see your scalp through your hair more clearly.

It works best if you've experienced gradual hair loss for under 10 years.

Age Restrictions for Regaine Foam

In most cases, Regaine Foam for Men is suitable for men aged between 18 and 49. The reason for this is due to the clinical trial cut-off. However, men aged 49-65 can use the Regaine traditional solution.

How to Use Regaine Extra Strength Scalp Foam For Hereditary Hair Loss?

When using Regaine Foam, please follow these instructions?

  • Prepare: Make sure your scalp and hair are dry. Applying it when your scalp is damp can dilute the formula.
  • Cool Your Hands: It's also important to cool your hands to ensure the foam reaches your scalp correctly. Warm hands may cause the foam to melt.
  • Dosage: Apply twice daily. Each dose is 1g of foam (half a capful). Please stick to this amount. Using more foam won't make a difference.
  • Application: Hold the can upside down and dispense the foam onto your cool fingers—this helps thin areas of your scalp and exposes as much skin as possible.
  • Massage: Once you apply the solution, massage it into the scalp to help it absorb.
  • Finish: Put the cap back on the bottle and store it upright. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
  • Wait: Let your hair dry for at least 15-20 minutes before applying any products. You should wait at least four hours before washing your hair.

During the first two to six weeks of your treatment, it's common to notice more hair shedding. However, this is a normal process, as follicles need to shed old hairs for a new hair growth cycle.

When to Avoid Using Regaine for Hair Thinning?

While Regaine Foam for Men is safe for most people, there are some restrictions. These include:

  • Medical Conditions: If you have a condition that impacts your blood pressure or a heart condition, you should avoid using the foam.
  • Allergies: Avoid using Regaine Foam for Men if you're allergic to Minoxidil.
  • Scalp Problems: You should never apply the foam if you have an inflamed, infected, or red scalp. This also applies to sunburn.
  • Women: While some Regaine products are suitable for women, this formulation is intended for men only. Using it could cause excess hair growth and facial hair.

What is hereditary hair loss?

During a normal day, people can lose between 50 and 100 hairs from their scalps. It is hard to notice this because new hair is constantly growing and replacing the hair we lose. Hair loss happens when the new hair cannot replace the hair that falls out. The medical term for hair loss is alopecia.

The most common cause of hair loss in men is called androgenetic alopecia (also called androgenic alopecia). In men, it is known as male pattern baldness or male pattern hair loss. It becomes more common with age, and it affects about 80% of men over their lifetimes. While hair loss in men aged 40 and older is more common, it can begin as early as the late teens or 20s.

Male pattern hair loss is due to a combination of hormones, called androgens, and genetics. If you have a family history of hair loss, you may be more likely to carry genes that put you at risk of experiencing hair loss. This is why the age at which it starts can vary so drastically for each man.

Male pattern baldness usually starts with hair loss at the front and sides of the scalp, progressing to the back of the head. If you notice sudden, patchy hair loss or more hair loss than usual, speak to your GP. There may be other conditions associated with your hair loss.

How does Regaine foam for men work for hereditary hair loss?

The active ingredient in Regaine is Minoxidil.

It is believed to work by increasing blood and nutrient supply to the hair follicle. This helps strengthen existing hair and, in some cases, can stimulate secondary growth. It is thought to reverse the hair loss process by increasing the diameter of the hair shaft. It is also believed to promote and prolong the ‘growth’ phase of hair.

In the early stages of Regaine use, it stimulates the follicle to move into the growth phase, causing old hairs to fall out, making way for new, thicker hairs – so don't worry if hair loss increases for a very short time at first.

How long does Regaine for men take to work for hereditary hair loss?

Hair regrowth may occur as early as 8 weeks after starting Regaine for men. This can vary from person to person, and it can take up to 16 weeks to get visible results for hair loss. The progression of hair loss before treatment is a factor in the success of treatment. Catching hair loss early with treatment usually allows for faster, stronger results.

What are the alternative treatments to Regaine for men?

Regaine for men may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with sensitive skin or skin conditions which make topical, on-scalp hair loss treatments not recommended, such as eczema and dermatitis. It is best to seek your doctor's advice before starting any alternative treatment. Tablet treatments such as Propecia (original) and Finasteride (generic) are prescription hair loss treatments available after consulting our online doctors.

Regaine (Minoxidil) and Finasteride can be used together for hair loss, as they work in different ways, though together they may not be suitable for everyone.
