Yes, Aciclovir tablets are safe to take long term over several months. This means it is suitable for individuals who experience recurrent genital herpes and want to keep it under control.

Do Aciclovir tablets affect the contraceptive pill?

There are no known interactions between Aciclovir tablets and the contraceptive pill, so it is safe to take both at the same time. Please remember that if you experience any side effects such as vomiting or diarrhoea, this can affect the effectiveness of the pill.

How quickly should Aciclovir tablets work for genital herpes outbreaks?

You should start taking Aciclovir tablets as soon as symptoms start to appear. However, Aciclovir can also be taken as a preventative measure for long-term sufferers. If it’s your first time taking Aciclovir tablets, the first course will likely be around ten days. It’s important to note that results do not show immediately, so it is important to be patient and continue the treatment until told to stop.

How can I manage side effects of Aciclovir tablets?

Unfortunately, there are some common side effects that can occur when using Aciclovir tablets such as diarrhoea. But this can be reduced by using over-the-counter treatments such as Loperamide. It’s recommended to take Aciclovir tablets with or just after food in order to minimise nausea. There are options available for vomiting such as cyclizine, promethazine, and prochlorperazine, which can be purchased here at Pharmacy Online.
